How Long Can You Wear Enhancers Before They Give Up

In theory, a silicone-filled breast enhancer, unless punctured, can be worn for several years before giving in. In practice, however, accidents happen that can irreparably damage the pad.

Silicone was used, at one time, for breast implants. Although toxic, implants were designed - at least in theory - to be strong enough to withstand reasonable impact and secure enough not to leak. Roughly the same principle applies to breast enhancers.

The main plastic shell that inserts are made of has no discernable edges. It would be too risky to simply have two plastic sheets glued together in order to keep the silicone in. After carefully studying my own breast enhancers I've come to the conclusion that they also have an additional skin covering the main plastic shell to make it doubly secure. This second skin does have edges but they are firmly glued together.

Over time, however, I've found that some air got underneath the enhancer's outer skin to create tiny air pockets. In time I suspect more air will get in until the outer skin will give in completely. However, I don't expect my bra inserts to deteriorate in this fashion for at least another year because I've worn it solid for a year so far with no problem.

It's particularly important that silicone-filled breast cups for AA busts (32 AA, 34 AA, etc) to be secure. Because these bust enhancers cover the entire breast, they also take the full force of any impact, and by impact I mean an overly enthusiastic hug, an overly heavy box resting on your fake boobs or your significant other rolling over you. Experience tells me breast forms made of silicone can take the strain with flying colours.

Technically speaking, unless punctured with a sharp object, bra pads will last for ages and ages so adverts stating "doesn't puncture or leak" apply to 99% of all silicone-filled enhancers but that doesn't mean you'll wear them for that long.

Unfortunately, any plastic directly against your skin becomes humid from perspiration. Sadly, it also catches on a subtle, but definite smell, most obvious when the enhancers come off. However religiously you may clean them, natural bodily functions like perspiration cannot be put on hold.

Liquid-filled breast enhancers in plastic shells should be replaced every 18-24 months for hygiene reasons unless they are made of a special formula able to deal with perspiration smell.
